For further understanding of biblical joy, lets’ look at the original Hebrew and Greek words. ![]() ![]() Though the Bible similarly uses joy to describe a feeling of happiness, it differs in significant ways. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as “ the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.” While the Oxford dictionary defines it as “ a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.” Joy is an essential component of the Christian life, and it appears over a hundred times in the Bible.
